Done

  • Set up automatic releases with release-please, which reads my commit messages, writes the changelog and suggests the next version (PR #5).
  • Created the first release tag, v0.0.1, marking the end of Phase 0.
  • Fixed the tag format so the bot recognises my existing tags (PR #7).
  • Phase 0 (foundations) is complete.

Learned

  • PRs opened by a bot using GitHub's default token don't trigger CI, so with branch protection they could never be merged. A personal access token fixes this.
  • The version number is stored in two files (pyproject.toml and uv.lock), so both must change together or uv sync --locked fails.
  • Always test automation against the real repo. The bot looked for modelbump-v0.0.1 instead of my v0.0.1 tag, and I only found that by watching its first real run.

Next

  • Phase 1: build the model retirement registry (which models are retired, and when).

Reminders

  • The RELEASE_PLEASE_TOKEN expires on . Rotate it before then.
